Democracy is an imperfect form of government but as protests in Iran can attest, the alternative to democracy is death, despair, and a bleak outlook. It is crucial that democratic societies continue to innovate their political systems to ensure that citizens continue to view their governments as the legitimate holders of power.

It is also quite clear, that liberal democracy as created in the United States and Europe are losing legitimacy among their own citizens. A resurgence of authoritarianism is rising among Western democracies and more citizens are losing faith that their democracies can deliver.

Creating True Representative Democracy: Stewardship Representation

Democracy as it was created in the West, means representative government. This is when a group of citizens elect a single person to represent them in the government. That representative themselves gets one vote in the legislature. Hundreds, thousands, or hundreds of thousands of citizens' voting power gets condensed into a single vote. What that means is that one candidate who who wins an election with half a million votes, will have the exact same voting power and a representative colleague who win their election with 100,000 votes.

For all of the peoples of Iranshahr, their political status is classified as citizens, guaranteed through rights and the rule of law by various constitutions. In reality, they are all little more than subjects. A subject is a person under the power of a sovereign (prince, dictator, state) and has obligations to fulfill to that sovereign. They must give but should not expect to receive. If they do receive justice, rights, or prosperity, they must be grateful to receive it. Their relationship to the state is that of submission rather than some social contract. ​
